Marvel Director Leaves

Marvel Director Leaves

It was recently announced that director Scott Derrickson has left Dr Strange 2 due to
creative differences. It was rumored that he was going to take the sequel in a scarier
   direction than previous Marvel movies.

Frankly, I don't blame Scott one bit. MCU chief Kevin Feige wanted to water down
his movie to appeal to the masses. Why should the director have his vision comprimsed
under the name of the almighty dollar.

Scott was right right in leaving and much better off making his own movies the way
he wants to. Unfortunately that means Marvel will hire someone that will answer to
them without disputes and the quality of Dr. Strange 2 will suffer because of it.

Cinematic Universe Craze

Cinematic Universe Craze

Cinematic Universes are the rage right now but some studios aren't learning the right
   lessons in establishing one.

When Marvel Studios released The Avengers five years ago, many studios have
been looking to Marvel as a model in which to create one. Everywhere you look now,
there seems to be one popping up into existence.
The idea of a cinematic universe first started over 20 years ago with Kevin Smith's
View Askew movies that included Clerks, Mallrats, and Jay & Silent Bob Strike Back.
Movies that were made by Kevin Smith himself and featured characters he created.
Fast forward to today where that model has been commercialized to the point of
making a quick buck. Many studios haven't gotten the idea that in order for a universe
to work, it has to slowly build, focusing on an individual character first then much later
  for a team up.
Here are a few studios who tried to make their own Cinematic Universe :

Sony Pictures (Failed miserably when they released their an all female Ghosbusters
movie amid critical and fan backlash.)

Universal (Also failed horribly when they tried to start their Dark Universe featuring
their dormant horror movie monsters and had the writer of Transformers directing it.)

Legendary Pictures (Doing fairly well with their own featuring kaiju monsters such as
  Godzilla and King Kong).

Warner Bros. (Doing decently after the financial success of Wonder Woman and
  their DC Universe).

Coming soon are the Nintendo Universe, Valiant Comics Universe and X-Men
  Universe.

As you can see with shared universes, it can be hit or miss. Many studios are looking
to replicate the lightning in the bottle that Marvel had and just failing at it. Maybe it's
time they stop putting all their eggs in their basket and focus on making good films first
that people want to see. If there is no genuine desire to build a working shared universe
with their properties then why bother?  Like all crazes, people will tire of these shared
universes and studios will look for the next movie genre trend that will make them money.

New Flash Movie Plot Details

Flash Movie Plot Details

It was announced at the 2017 San Diego Comic Con that the plot for the new
Flash movie is going to be an adaptation of the Flashpoint Paradox story arc.
Published in 2011, the 5 issue arc involves the scarlet speedster traveling back
to the past only to find out he inadvertently changed the future. He finds out that
Bruce Wayne's father is the new Batman and his arch nemesis,Captain Cold, is the
new hero. Superman doesn't even exist. Without Supes and Batman then the Justice
League doesn't get formed. Now it's up to Barry Allen to fix the past before it's
  too late.

      My Take :
While I'm happy a Flash movie is being made, I think it's too early to do the
Flashpoint story considering it's already been before on the TV show The Flash.
It would feel totally redundant and customary.
If the right producer/director were to adapt it, then it might actually be pretty
good. If the cast of the Justice League were to appear then it'd be even better.
But knowing how Warner Bros likes to play catch up with Marvel and rush out
their DC films (I'm looking at you Zack Snyder), it probably won't be any good.

Emoji Movie Controversy

Popeye cancelled for  The Emoji Movie?

Later this summer, Sony Animation will release "The Emoji Movie". It is an animated
movie based on the popular emoticons on mobile devices. Genndy Tartakovsky's Popeye
movie was supposed to be released instead.

Sony Animation is making a huge mistake by not green lighting a Popeye cartoon.
Releasing an Emoji movie makes sense financially because many kids today know what
that is. It's a shame they couldn't make a Popeye movie also. I used to watch him when
I was little. I'm sure most people would watch it too.

It goes to show Sony is creatively bankrupt and scraping the bottom of the barrel.
I hope Emoji movie bombs so bad, Sony loses money and goes out of business.

edit: The Popeye movie has been cancelled; Genndy has released his pet project, "Samurai
Jack" for Cartoon Network's Adult Swim block.

Rogue One Production Trouble ?

  Courtesy of the Hollywood Reporter:

Star Wars stand alone movie, Rogue One, will undergo several weeks worth
of additional shooting sources have confirmed to the Hollywood Reporter.
Much of the cast and the director, Gareth Edwards, will regroup in mid June
for another round of shooting. The move is happening after execs screened the
film and felt it was tonally off and not what a Star Wars movie should feel like.
The pic has not been tested before audiences but one source describes the cut as
having the feel of a war movie.
The goal of reshoots is to lighten the mood and bring some levity into the story
and restore a sense of fun and adventure.

This is what I think about it:

I think the studio should not be meddling with the director over the movie. But then
again you can't sell any toys from the movie to the kids. Heaven forbid it might be too
gritty for them. Time will tell if studio interference will cause the movie to suffer. The
only thing Disney cares about is it's bottom line nothing more. It goes to show that the
studio is afraid of taking risks so as to not disrupt the tone of the movie. The original
trilogy was pretty dark in itself but had to mess it up having Ewoks defeat the Empire
with rocks and sticks.

20th Century Fox & Comic Con

20th Century Fox has announced it will not be at Comic Con this summer for the
fear of people pirating unfinished footage for their upcoming tentpole movies.

My opinion on this:  Why even show the footage in the first place if they know
the people there will be recording it ? Comic con is terribly overcrowded and
expensive in itself for the those that can't afford to go. By leaking it out to the
masses, it creates hype and gets people talking about it. Isn't that what the studios
 want?
I understand that by releasing it at these conventions, it gives fans an incentive
to go. I'd rather watch it online than having to stand in line for several hours just
to get in. Besides, who would want to deal with cosplayers, people dressed as
their favorite Star Wars or video game character?
It'd be nice if they would stream it live online for those that cannot attend.
Disney pulled out a couple years ago and now have their own convention called
D23, where they show their upcoming big movies.
If other studios follow suit, it may be the end for showing early footage there
and return to the early days before the studios got involved.
