I love going out to the movies like anyone else. In fact I saw my first movie when I
was 6 years old. But lately, theaters have been changing the way we watch them.
In order to combat the rise of Netflix binging and dropping attendance, theaters have
been resorting to gimmicks like adding a bar to get people back in.
Along with installing leather recliners, they have implemented a new thing
called Assigned Seating. Assigned Seating is when you get to pick where
you'll be seating before a movie starts. While I think it's great that
they improved the quality of going out, it doesn't come without it's share
of a couple problems:
1.) Higher Ticket Prices: Theaters such as AMC, Brenden & Cinemark (XD only)
have installed new recliners, what better way to recoup the cost of buying them
by raising the ticket prices a few quarters more.
2.) Obnoxious People: Depending on where you sit, you may not move to
another seat if you find yourself sitting next to an unruly child or someone
who hasn't bathed in days. Luckily, I haven't had to deal with this problem.
Just like 3D fad many years ago, people will tire of them and stop going.
In the age of Netflix and streaming services, it's better watch a movie in
the comfort of your own home.
